Determination of molar mass

Exercise 5

A solution $ S $ of $1.50\;g$ of a dissolved substance $S^{,}$ in $41.7\;g$ of pure water freezes at $-0.372\;^oC$. The cryoscopic constant of water is: $K_f$ $=$ $1.86\;^oC$ Calculate the molar mass of the solute.

$0.372$ $=$ $1.86\cdot \mu $ $\mu$ $=$ $0.200 \frac{mol_{S^{,}}}{kg_{S}}$ $n_{S^{,}}$ $=$ $0.200\cdot 0.041$ = $0.0082$ $M_{S^{,}}$ $=$ $\frac{1.50}{0.0082}$ = $ 182.9 \; \frac{g}{mol}$
