The polyosides

Polysaccharides (polyosides) are condensates of several cyclic oses:

Cellulose

Poly (β-D-Glucose (1 → 4) β-D-Glucose)

Constituent of plant's cell wall, it is the most common natural polymer on earth. Used to make paper, cellophane and rayon.

Starch and glycogen

Poly (α-D-Glucose (1 → 4) α-D-Glucose), ramifications by rare (1 → 6) bonds .

Starch is a reserve substance of plants, it is an important constituent of the diet. Glycogen is the reserve substance of animals and man, it is manufactured and stored in the liver and muscles.
