Alcohols

The alcohol functional group

Because of the steric hindrance $COH$ angle is a little greater than the corresponding angle $HOH$ in water. The similarity with the water will show especially in the physical and the acid-base behavior properties.

Classes (types) of alcohols

R,R',R'' are hydrocarbon chains. Methanol $CH_3OH$ is also considered a primary alcohol. The hydrocarbon chains can affect the chemical properties of alcohols, for example by their inductive effect.
