Methanal (Formaldehyde) is a colourless gas.
It is the raw material in the synthesis of numerous organic products such as some plastics.
The aqueous solution of this substance called formol was largely used as a disinfectant and also for preserving animal specimens.
Formaldehyde is corrosive, highly toxic and flammable.
