Tetrachloromethane (carbon tetrachloride) was a largely used solvent in dry cleaning during the 20th century.
In 1910, the "Pyrene Manufacturing Company" in Delaware discovered that this substance could be useful to extinguish fire.
The substance is toxic and probably carcinogenic.
